Ren Azuma

Researcher / Writer

Ren Azuma is a screenwriter, writer, and researcher born and raised in Japan.

 

Azuma graduated from the Screenwriting Program at The Film School of Tokyo (Eiga Bigakkou) in Shibuya City, Tokyo. Notable graduates include directors such as Shimizu Takashi (“The Grudge”), Koji Fukada (“Harmonium”), and Shô Miyake (“Small, Slow but Steady”), among others.

He joined Studio Muso in 2022, where his responsibilities included summarizing stories and researching a wide range of Japanese IPs. His work primarily focuses on manga, anime, novels, TV series, movies, music, and underground culture.

Azuma made his screenwriting debut with the feature documentary film “Padre Project (2023)”, directed by Go Takeuchi, which won Best International Film at the Detroit Trinity International Film Festival, the Baltimore International Black Film Festival, and the Golden Sun Award at the Karatsu Rising Sun International Film Festival.

In addition to his screenwriting work, Azuma has been involved in researching and developing fashion editorials for well-known international publications, which are set to be released later this year. As an avid researcher and data collector, Azuma watches an average of 200 movies per year and reads 25 books per month. In total, he has seen about 900 movies and read about 1,200 books in the last four years.
